Every Super Nintendo game manual in English is available online for free thanks to Twitch Streamer Peebs
Anyone interested in a manual for a game for the Super Nintendo, you’re in luck! Kerry Hays, who goes by Peebs on Twitch, wanted to beat every game on the system but needed help so Hays turned to the manuals. “We had wondered, some of these games, if anyone had ever beaten them before? They were so weird and obscure or difficult. He started in October 2020 with around 650. Then Hays went online for help. Kotaku’s coverage of the story may have helped with the collection, as some wrote to the site saying they had submissions they wanted to send. ‘have an old Super Nintendo manual lying around’ or ‘Oh, I have some old Super Nintendo games at my parents’ house, I’ll go see if any of the games they need are there.’ Ultimately, Hays’ collection spans over 850 unique Super Nintendo manuals and is available online for free. The collection can be consulted on the Internet Archive.

Video game manuals have sort of been abandoned as the industry has evolved. The manual was where you found the buttons to press and how the console worked. Depending on the game, this could also include lore, backstory, and possibly a map. Games these days have the intro cutscene and tutorial for the first hour. Older games didn’t have the time or space to include them – hence the manuals.
Explaining why he wanted to make the collection available online for free, Hays said: “To me, preservation is that everyone has access to this material when they want it and where they want it. It would be nice to get paid, you know, a standard salary for that. That’s just not what it’s about.
Hays also talked about what he wants to do next.
“Everyone keeps asking me, ‘Hey are you going to do this system and how are you going to do this system?’ And I say to myself: “No, I think we are going to do all the systems”, because why not?
