Who is the most excited you have ever been for a Nintendo game?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons posts record sales figures for the series, capitalizing on a dry Switch release period and a lot of hype. After such a long wait for a main series entry to return to consoles, the game is quite easily the most high-profile entry in the history of the series. How does its pre-release hype rank against all Nintendo games? Where does it fall for you? What’s the most hyped Nintendo game you’ve ever been? Why were you so excited for this? Did it look particularly good? Was this a sequel to an all-time favorite? Did it just happen at a particularly dizzying time in your childhood?

For me the hype came with Star Fox 64 3D, followed closely by Super Mario Odyssey. Star Fox 64 3D was a dream come true for young Andrew. After playing Super Mario 64 DS in the late 2000s, I wondered what other N64 games might translate to a laptop, and I kept circling around Star fox 64. The short duration and high replayability (along with the fact that the game is just a masterpiece) made the title perfect for a portable version. To my surprise, a few years later, Star Fox 64 3D was announced alongside the Nintendo 3DS. I was ecstatic. In retrospect it all seems a bit extreme, but I absolutely had to get this game ASAP. I spent months saving for a 3DS and the game, and as soon as it arrived I did nothing but play it for weeks. It’s still my most played 3DS title to date, and I can’t help but go back to it a few times a year at least. Hype encountered.

Which Nintendo game have you excited the most? Did it live up to the hype? Is there anything more exciting that could be announced? Let us know in the comments!
